The Johnson Control group assessed the need of the automakers. The automotive manufacturers had to buy individual covers for the car seats. The seats were constructed simultaneously with the automotive assembly. The Johnson Control was outsourced with the development of a whole car seat set. The case focuses on a plant near the Toyota assembly of the Camry. The plant focused on just-in-time systems for the delivery of car seat components. However, the challenge of a variation in the seat covers was presented in the case. The plant was also given an opportunity to increase the plant size at another location. The case study revolves around the question of the plant’s utilization of the newly acquired space.
