There are several challenges presented in this case which are faced by the founder of the Porter Airlines. The time cut of 2002-2003 was when the founder was looking for permits to initiate an airline from the airport in Toronto. The market potential of the new airline is assessed and the students are presented with the case of entrance into an industry with a high level of competition. It enables them to design strategies to compete on the basis of superior performance. Also, the challenges that entail regulatory, political, and stakeholder issues are incorporated in the case.
